My daughter looked at me one evening in our Perth kitchen and asked: "Mum, what will happen to me if you die?" I had no answer. I had quietly disappeared inside my own life, and I had not noticed until I could not find myself anymore.

My brother died. And when he did, I learned that my grief made people uncomfortable. My father needed me to be strong, so I was strong. My in-laws said: time will heal. My friends said: you are doing so well. Everyone loved me in the only way they knew how. And I was completely alone inside it. So I did what I had always done. I got busier. I smiled. Because that is what was required of me.

"I was alone in a room full of people. Every single time. I laughed at the right moments and drove home hollower than when I arrived."

The following year, my mother-in-law died. Fear of death moved into my body and stayed. Panic attacks. Chest pain so real I thought I was dying. Emergency rooms with normal test results. Sitting in car parks afterwards wondering: how can I feel this bad when nothing is wrong?

I was offered antidepressants. Sleeping pills. I felt thirty-two symptoms that nobody connected into a single picture. Nobody sat across from me and said: this is perimenopause. This is grief. This all makes sense. You are not going crazy. You are not broken. Nobody said that. So I kept assuming the problem was me.

My daughter was fourteen. She was being bullied at school and needed me to be her safety. I did not know how to be that yet, because I had never been taught I could be that for anyone, including myself. I tried. But I was performing the role of mother rather than being present in it. She could feel the difference even when she could not name it. And she decided to manage herself. She was fourteen and she had already learned that her needs were a burden.

When I understood that, I recognised it. I had learned it the same way, from watching my father. A quiet instruction to perform strength and never show the underneath had reached my daughter. I could see it. And I did not yet know how to stop it.

"I reached a place I have never spoken about publicly until now. I did not want to carry on. I was a little girl inside living an adult life. Screaming inside. Performing fine outside."

And then one person looked at me and said: you matter. Everything about you matters. That was it. That was the whole thing. Not a programme. Not a methodology. One person seeing the whole of me without flinching, without minimising, without handing me a five-step plan before I had even been heard.

I trained intensively for two years in Meta Dynamics, NLP, Quantum Life Coaching, Emotional Integration and Attachment Theory. Not for the credentials. To find out what it takes to feel safe in your own nervous system again. What I built became the S.E.L.F. Method.

Within months, my daughter said: "Mum, whatever you are doing, keep doing it. I feel so safe and loved being around you." That was my proof. The cycle stopped. With me. Because I was brave enough to go looking for a different way.

Being capable does not mean abandoning yourself

Your capability was never the problem. The pattern you learned to survive was.

Capacity, not character

Nothing you're experiencing is a moral failing. It's a nervous system running patterns on empty.

Body first. Always.

You cannot lead, connect or decide from a dysregulated nervous system. Body first.

The whole picture

Hormones and teens and parents and partner and career. All held together, not one at a time.

Zero toxic positivity

You do not need a motivational slogan. You need someone who tells you the truth.

You deserve to know you

Not the performed version. The real you beneath every role and obligation.
